Eureka Symposium 08 - Negative
Tuesday, September 02, 2008
After having so much fun and joy, a sense of relax after our biggest event. There is still some takeaways feedback to reflect upon for better room for improvement.
It has been sad that this year despite we have a bigger organizing committee, the response for the event wasn't that well (only 1 secondary school attended when our main target audiences are them). Reason given was it was in the examination period.
The committee have numerous changes in plans and communication breakdown here and there, last but not least, inflexible for changes. There was no professional events attitude, so the atmosphere seem kind of dense. The event was slightly back at schedule time, one of the speaker was late.
During the symposium (conference) , too many walking, there are empty seats around since among the participants there are helpers for the workshop in the noon still there was no proper organization to control their movement, some participants also even took the session as a photography session, having fun chit chatting, taking picture of themselves rather than listening to the speaker. It is so rude and disrespectful to the speaker and committee.
We also had to "intentionally" gave the last team (our 1 and only secondary school) the F1 tickets, since the rest our polytechnic students and there are a number of team that was formed by our own IG's members.
Improvement to made: (in mind)
- Committee
- Helper selection
- Participants
- Date of Events
- Planning & Communication
- Attitude
Therefore, there is a sense of disappointment, lots of questions in mind about the rate of success, hope this wouldn't be the last time we will be organizing or secondary attending. If possible would like to make improvement, learn form the mistake made and make the next symposiums a greater success.
